Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens

The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens are located in Queens Domain, a short distance north of the centre of Hobart. The Tasman Highway and Domain Highway are located near the gardens while access to the main area is via Lower Domain Road.

The gardens are open 365 days a years. As well as the usual facilities for visitors, there is also wireless internet and podcasts. Entry to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is free, they do accept donations. Some areas of the gardens, including the Conservatory, can be hired.

Floral displays are housed in the Conservatory, there are Huon pines around the gardens, the collection also includes threatened species and there are many varieties of local and world flora.

Various educational courses and organic garden talks can be booked. The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is the venue for special productions, in 2011 they had the Power Plant show which brought together the plants, a light show and music. Other events include Shakespeare plays, art exhibitions and gardening programs hosted by garden experts.

Some of the important areas of the gardens are the Kiosk, Restaurant, Shop, Training and Function Room, Greater Hobart Flora, Tasmanian Section, Lily Pond, Chinese Collection, Herb Garden, Subantarctic Plant House, Conservatory, Pete’s Vegie Patch named after ABC Gardening Australia television show presenter Peter Cundall, The Friends’ Mixed Border, French Memorial Garden and Japanese Garden.
