St. David's Cathedral

Hobart hotels

Located in the centre of Hobart, St. David's Cathedral is a unique building in Australia due to its historical significance and architectural design.

Construction began in 1868, it was completed in 1936. The site has played an even longer part in the history of Tasmania and Australia, as there was also a church located there before the current building. Construction on that church began in 1817, with the first Christmas service being held there in 1819.

After St Andrew's, located in Sydney, St. David's Cathedral is the oldest of all the Anglican cathedrals in Australia. Despite its age, St. David's Cathedral remains one of the tallest buildings in Hobart.

St. David's Cathedral has a seated capacity of 650 people. The cathedral is listed with the National Trust of Australia.

Open every day, St. David's Cathedral has several services on Sunday. These include a Sunday School as well as evening prayer. There are also many performances by the Cathedral Choir. As well as regular church services, St. David's Cathedral is also the venue for musical events. Past concerts have included the Hobart City Band and The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

The address for St. David's Cathedral is 125 Macquarie Street, Hobart. Located on the corner of Macquarie Street and Murray Street, it is within walking distance of many of Hobart's tourism destinations, like Parliament Square, Sullivan's Cove and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
